Weather

For today's weather will be mostly sunny  for the whole day. It will  be a pretty cloudy 36 degrees in the morning  and in the afternoon a fairly nice 54 degrees . Winds will be slow.  For the rest of the week it will be high and low 50s in the afternoons a below 50s in morning. And rainy for the rest of the week.

Today is National Ice Cream day a survey shows different age groups Most prefer mint chocolate over strawberry and cookie dough preferring different ice cream flavors according to the survey teens 14 through 17 prefer mint chocolate over strawberry and cookie dough. Overall chocolate was the most favorite out of all of the groups. You do know that hot fudge is the most popular topping.
This quarter of all seventh and eighth-grade students with no f's from first and second quarter only, two have been chosen for a prize.  The prizes are a basketball and a squishy thing.The seventh grade winner is Marhaba Siddiqui and eighth grade winner is Osvaldo Felix.  Come see Miss Dunkelburger after school to claim your prize,

  • Today is National Gingerbread House Day! Did you know that the World’s largest gingerbread house was made in 2013, by the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, United States? The house was 60ft (18.23m) and 10.1 ft (18.28m) tall. Why won’t you give it a try to make a larger Gingerbread House?

  •  Jim Rohn said “ One person caring about another represents life's greatest value.” 
  •  A great example of caring is Clarissa Harlowe Barton, known as Clara, is one of the most honored women in American history. Barton risked her life to bring supplies and support to soldiers in the field during the Civil War. She founded the American Red Cross and led it for twenty three years. Her understanding of the ways she could provide help to people in distress guided her throughout her life. By the force of her personal example, she opened paths to the new field of volunteer service. Her intense devotion to serving others resulted in enough achievements to fill several ordinary lifetimes.

  • Today is Academic Intervention day. We are on Wednesday-like  schedule! Go to your Hawk time after 2nd period like normal. After 6th period at 1:21, you will return to your Hawk time class to get your wristbands or your assigned Study hall room.  School is dismissed at 2:34 pm like normal.

And did you know that a plastic water bottle breaks down in 450 years?!  We have the ability to recycle our plastic bottles. Find the recycle bins around campus and in the classrooms and use them.

  • River Hawks, we are participating in a food drive to help families during the holidays.  If you bring canned or packaged food, you will receive a ticket per item. Write your name on the back and place them in drawing at lunch time.  Your name might be drawn for a great prize. The more food items, the more tickets.

Thursday November 7, 2019

  • Red Ribbon Door Decorating Contest Winners were announced.  First from Ms. A. “I and the Club Live students, would like to thank you for such great participation in the door contest!! Our special VIP guests from district and county were very impressed with how many of you participated!! You made it incredibly difficult to choose the top 3 winners for the contest, there were so many doors we loved! The students debated for quite awhile on selecting the doors they felt best represented Red Ribbon Week. Prizes will be delivered later today or tomorrow morning. Thank you again so much for all the work you put into your doors!! Third place: Mrs. Harvey’s class. The students loved your idea with the hands!
  • Second place:  Ms. Brady’s class. The students felt it was very creative!
  • And first place goes to Ms. Lee’s class! The students absolutely loved all the different languages on the door… it made it feel very inclusive.Thank you again for a successful Red Ribbon Week, a reminder to remain drug free Let’s meet Israel, one of our SJTV Broadcasters….. Wednesday November 6, 2019     

  • Friday’s Spirit theme is Red, White and Blue!  Show your school spirit and wear USA colors. 
  • Remember if you hear this song “play Michael Jackson’s Thriller”  there will be a tardy sweep. All teachers will lock their doors and anyone found outside the classroom will be taken to the office and given tardy citations/lunch detentions.  Don’t be late to class!

We are signed up to battle two other middle schools. An exciting highlight of this team is the field trips to various competitions; as a competitor, spectator, or volunteer.   • Did you miss your school picture being taken?  There is a make-up picture day which is Friday, the 11th.  More details to follow.

  • Tonight from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm is the Map Your Future Event at Elk Grove Park.  Make it a family time. There will be hands-on activities and a family friendly barbecue. 
  • National Dumpling Day ~ Did you know that there are different types of dumplings? At least 25 different types of dumplings. But we’re only talking about 2 of them. First dumpling is called the Khinkali. It is located on the edges of Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia. The inside of the dumpling is spiced beef and pork, formed together by the pleats of the wrapper at the top. The next dumpling is Gyozas. You could find it anywhere in Japan. Gyozas are filled with ground meat and vegetables, wrapped in a thin dough.

  • This is Constitution Week. It is the remembrance of our country’s most important document. The Bill of Rights is the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. It spells out Americans’ rights in relation to their government. Individual rights like freedom of speech, press, and religion. It sets rules for due process of law and reserves all powers not given to the Federal Government to the people or the States.

  • Eighteen years ago on September 11th, 2001, terrorists using American passenger airplanes,  destroyed the Twin Towers and killed over 3 thousand Americans. People in the towers either jumped to their death, killed when the planes hit the towers or died when the buildings collapsed. People were running for their lives and thousands of people were injured. The terrorists also ran a plane into the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.

  • Want to take a trip that you will never forget?  Want to see first hand what you will learn in 8th grade history?  Come to the library with your parent on Wednesday September 4, at 6 pm to the Jackman Library and learn about our trip to Washington DC in May of 2020.

  • There is a mandatory athletic meeting in the gym after school TODAY. 
  • If you plan on playing a sport during the school year, please show up to this meeting.  It will be brief but contains important paperwork for the upcoming sports season 
  • If you cannot attend the meeting, please find Mr. Fernandez to get the information
  • Also, there will be free physicals on September 3rd right after school in the gym.  Please take advantage of this opportunity If you plan on playing a sport this school year.
  • Attention students - are you interested in photography? Graphic design? Editing? Attending school events like basketball games and movie days? Please consider joining the Yearbook Club this year! We will have our first informational meeting in L-12 after school next Tuesday August 27th from 2:45-3:00. See you at room L-12 next Tuesday after school! 
  • Also next Tuesday August 27th is picture day. Be ready. 
  • Show your school spirit tomorrow and wear Jackman colors! Purple, black or silver are all Jackman colors.
