The Character Trait for October is Resilience. Personal resilience is the ability to remain productive and positive when faced with stress, uncertainty and change. Here are some examples of resilience.

    • Looking for the positive aspects of problems. For example, the idea that a problem often causes improvements or perhaps great leaps forward in your school work or friendships.
Participating in disagreements without becoming overly emotional.
    • Remaining productive under stress. For example, although the end of quarter is coming, a student continues to do their school work and homework consistently.

Let’s continue to practice our ability to be resilient as we start our 2nd Quarter at Jackman.

  • Monday  October 8, 2018

  • Today is Monday October 8, 2018 and welcome to the River Hawk News!

The Character Trait for October is Resilience. Resilience is the ability to recover quickly from difficulties. Another word for resilience is toughness. Like any skill, resilience can be developed, it just takes some practice. Two ways that can help you to become more resilient is

    1.  Finding  a sense of purpose in your life, like getting involved in your community or participate in activities that are meaningful to you.

    2. Remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments. When you start thinking negative thoughts about yourself, immediately replace them with positive thoughts like “I can do this.” or “I am a good friend.”

These two things are great ways to build resilience for the future.

  • Wednesday  October 3, 2018

  • First a little morning wisdom from our Principal:  Mr. Anderson.

  • “Good morning.

So apparently, last week, I looked mad and mean during the announcements so I am going to try to smile a little more today.

So, this morning I would like to share something I was reading yesterday.

The average person without a high school diploma earns about $24,000 per year. The average person with a high school diploma earns almost $33,000 per year. That is $9,000 more dollars per year just for earning a high school diploma. Over a 40 year work career, that means that getting your high school diploma, you will earn an extra $360,000. If you go to college the difference gets even bigger.

What can you do here at Jackman to make sure you are ready to earn that high school diploma?

Come to school on time every day

Do your best in every classroom every day.

    Turn in your work.

Ask for help or attend tutoring if you get behind.

    Stay away from teenage drama

It’s not hard, but it is work.

Are you up for the challenge?

    Have a great day.”

Thank you Mr. Anderson.  And now for the rest of the announcements.

Today, Warm, Cinnamon and Sugar Churros will be on sale at lunch for  only $1

Also, today the cafeteria will have Chicken Torta Sandwiches in the alcove area, get one.

    Wednesday September 19, 2018
Today is Wednesday, September 19, 2018, and this is the River Hawk morning news:

    From Mr. Anderson:

What a great start to the school year. I am so impressed by how well this school year has started out and it’s hard to believe that we have already been here for almost six weeks already.

I just wanted to take a minute to talk about a few things that bothered me last week. In both cases, they began on social media and made their way onto our campus, putting student safety at risk. There is a lot of bad out there in the real-world these days and each of us have an opportunity to do our part to fix it. So my advice to you is if it is not nice, don’t say it. If it is not nice, don’t post it. We are better than that and this is our chance to show it.

Second, let us continue to get all of our trash in the trashcans during breakfast and lunch and please remember to not run during passing periods or lunch.

I am looking forward to seeing you each Wednesday on our daily bulletin. Have a great rest of your day and week.
