The 7th and 8th grade classes that collect the most will win a donut party! All the socks we collect will be donated to Sacramento Loaves and Fishes to help the less fortunate.

Fellow River Hawks!  There is a shoe decorating contest going on!  Did you find your shoe?  You still have plenty of time.  The contest ends on December 1.  Here are the basic rules you need to know.

First, ASK your parents before you “decorate” a shoe!  Then,

1. Find a shoe in your closet, thrift store, lost and found, ask around, etc. (you can’t buy one special for this project).
2.
The shoe can be any brand, any style – vans, converse, nike, adidas, puma, etc.
3.
Paint it any colors or designs you’d like.
4.
Decorate it with “found” items (for example, the sample one in Ms. Fuller’s window is decorated with found pennies)
5.
Decorated shoe(s) must be turned in by Wednesday, December 1st6.
6. Contest is open to anyone:  students, parents, staff!
7.
Shoes will be judged by professional panel of artists and community members

As a child Carlos's father, Jose, was an accomplished professional violinist, and as a child Carlos learned to play the instrument from his father, though he ultimately didn't enjoy the tones he created. He would eventually take up the electric guitar, for which he developed an ardent passion

Carlos Santana, (born July 20, 1947, Autlán de Navarro, Mexico), Mexican-born American musician whose popular music combined rock, jazz, blues, and Afro-Cuban rhythms with a Latin sound. Santana began playing the violin at age five; by age eight, however, he had switched to the guitar.

A few of his most popular songs are,"Smooth", "Soul Sacrifice" From: 'Santana' (1969), and "Evil Ways" From: 'Santana' (1969), Carlos is 74 years old. I hope this motivates you to be your best self.

She first obtained her physics degree from San Diego State University and later her masters and doctorate from Stanford University’s department of electrical engineering by 1985. Now it’s time for "Did You Know?” September 17, 1787, was the day the Constitution of the United States was signed.  Here are some facts about our Constitution:  The U.S. Constitution has 4,400 words.  It is the oldest and shortest written Constitution of any major government in the world Thomas Jefferson did NOT sign the Constitution. He was out of the country at the time. Because of his poor health, Benjamin Franklin needed help to sign the Constitution. As he did so, tears streamed down his face.

When it came time for the states to ratify the Constitution, the lack of any bill of rights was the primary sticking point.

Facts came from Constitutionfacts.com if you want to learn more.

Born in Arizona to a Mexican American family, Cesar Chavez grew up around the people he later helped through his activism. The defining moment in Chavez’s life came when his family moved to California during the Great Depression to become farm workers, cementing his fight for farmers rights.
