What is AVID?

AVID is an academic, regularly scheduled elective class, during the school day, based on writing as a tool of learning, the inquiry method, and collaborative grouping. The three main components of the program are:

  • Academic instruction
  • Tutorial support
  • Motivational activities

How effective is AVID? Here are some statistics:

  • 89.9% of AVID Seniors plan to attend college.
  • 90.8% of AVID Seniors completed college entrance requirements.
  • 70.1% of AVID students are economically disadvantaged.
  • AVID has been developed and in use for over 30 years.

IMPROVE YOUR TOMORROW

IYT is a college preparatory program in founded in 2013 in Sacramento, California to increase the number of young men color who attend and graduate from colleges and universities. Our aim is to break generational cycles of poverty, low educational attainment, and disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. IYT serves more than 400 students at Valley, Florin, Natomas, Burbank, Discovery, and Luther Burbank High Schools as well as at Samuel Jackman and Natomas Gateway Middle Schools. Students enter the program from 7th -10th grades and exit upon graduation from a university.
