School History

School History

Established in 1991, Samuel Jackman Middle School has served the Valley Hi community as part of the Elk Grove Unified School District for more than three decades. The school is named in honor of Samuel H. Jackman, who served as Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools during the late 19th century and was recognized for his dedication to strengthening public education and supporting teachers throughout the county. Although the decision to honor Jackman was made by the district's School Names Committee in 1965, the campus did not open its doors until September 1, 1991. Since then, Samuel Jackman Middle School has been committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive learning environment where students are encouraged to achieve academic excellence, develop strong character, and prepare for success in high school and beyond.
School Mission Statement.

School Mission Statement.

To accomplish the goals of our vision statement, it is our belief that the education of our young people is a partnership that includes parents, teachers, support staff, community members, and the students themselves. It is through a rigorous academic program and a wealth of extracurricular activities for students to explore their interests and talents that students can indeed reach their highest potential. This includes:
  • A safe learning environment where all staff and students can focus on teaching and learning.
  • A school wide commitment to the belief that all students can and will learn.
  • A school wide college and career focused environment.
